Eligibility and enrollment in Kansas

Am I eligible for Medicaid in Kansas?

KanCare is the State of Kansas’ Medicaid program. It helps qualified residents get access to affordable health insurance.

You may be eligible if you:

  • Are Medically Needy, between the ages of 19 and 64, and meet disability criteria. If age 65 and older, no disability criteria is required.
  • Are a parent or caretaker living with a dependent child.
  • Or your child has a need for long term care services and supports.
  • Are under the age of 19 and live in a household at or below 255 percent of the FPL.
  • Are pregnant.
  • Need treatment for breast or cervical cancer.
  • Aged out of a foster care program in Kansas or any other state. You can receive Medicaid through the end of the month of your 26th birthday as long as you’re a Kansas resident.
  • Need a nursing facility level of care and have an income at or below 300 percent of the current Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Federal Benefit Rate (FBR).
  • Are living in a Community Residential Care Facility and meet the SSI requirements.
  • Are considered a low-income Medicare beneficiary with an income between 120 percent and 135 percent of the FPL.
  • Are a resident of Kansas and a U.S. citizen.

If your family’s income is too high for you to meet the income requirements for KanCare, your children may still qualify. Check your family’s income in the KanCare income limits table to find out if your children are eligible.
